Background:
NSE (Neuron-Specific Enolase) is a glycolytic enzyme present in high concentration in neurons and in central and peripheral neuroendocrine cells. The protein showed specific neurotrophic and neuroprotective effects on cultured neuron cells in low oxygen condition and was found to increase expression after traumatic brain injury. Serum NSE level has been evaluated as a biomarker for predicting the outcome of patients after brain injury and for identifying brain injury in multiple organ trauma. Immuno-detection of NSE is used for identifying cells of neural and neuroendocrine lineage.
Application:ELISA
